If you’re anywhere near the internet, you're probably aware of this data breach but today we’re quickly covering what to know and how to protect yourself.
Quick background: National Public Data released deets about their data breach as a proposed class action lawsuit claims they exposed a whopping 2.9 billion personal records. That’s billion, with a "B."
What to Do?
Here’s our quick hitter list to protect yourself:
1. Freeze, Don't Lock: Get your credit on lockdown, but not literally. What you need is a credit freeze, not a credit lock. A credit freeze is free, while a credit lock is a paid service by credit agencies…
2. Change Your Passwords: Guilty of reusing passwords across multiple sites? No judgment here, we’ve all been there, but now’s the time to mix things up. And as annoying as it is, try 2-Factor Authentication (better safe than sorry).
3. SSN Best Practices: Stop carrying your Social Security card around like it’s a membership card for your favorite coffee shop. Keep it safe at home. Be picky about who gets your SSN. If someone asks for it, make sure they actually need it—like, really need it.
