🍊 Heavy-Handed on the Scale…
Walmart’s weighted checkout scales draw a $45M settlement
Good afternoon. Turns out Walmart’s grocery weights may be as inaccurate as what’s listed on your drivers license (let’s not even get into height for my 6’0 friends…). Well, Walmart allegedly made sure you paid the highest price for weighted groceries and bagged citrus, even items on sale and clearance. Now’s your chance to get back money for those purchases. Let’s dig in.

SETTLEMENT SPOTLIGHT
🍊🍖 Walmart’s Heavy-Handed Scale…
Walmart’s register scales weighing your groceries.
Gif by leeamerica on Giphy
Ever felt like you were being ‘weighed’ down at the checkout? Well, if you went grocery shopping at Walmart between October 2018 and January 2024, there are claims that you were…
What Happened?
The plaintiff's allegations go like this: If you bought Weighted Goods or Bagged Citrus at a Walmart Store during the Settlement Class Period, chances are you paid more than the lowest advertised price in-store.
How Was I ‘Allegedly’ Overcharged?
1️⃣ For Weighted Goods, if the shelf price was lower than the label, Walmart's system could inflate the weight, charging customers more at checkout.
2️⃣ With Bagged Citrus, Walmart's Shelf Tags displayed higher weights, resulting in overcharges for customers.
3️⃣ In the case of expiring Weighted Goods, the yellow discount sticker could indicate a lower price per unit than what customers were actually charged.
Class Member Criteria
🛒 All persons who purchased weighted goods and/or bagged citrus in-person at a Walmart retail store, supercenter, or neighborhood market in the U.S. or Puerto Rico.
📆 Made these purchases between October 19, 2018 - January 19, 2024.
🍖 “Weighted Goods” = packaged meat, poultry, pork, and seafood sold at Walmart with varying weights.
🍋 “Bagged Citrus” = organic oranges, organic grapefruit, tangerines, and navel oranges sold in Walmart Stores in bulk in mesh or plastic bags.
Got Receipts?
❌ No? No sweat. You could still be eligible for $10-25 back (for <5 mins of time)
